President's Message

Welcome to Local Colors of Utah art gallery blog. My name is Catherine Darling Hostetter, and I currently serve as president of the gallery. It is a cooperative of 23 artists. The gallery is located in Salt Lake City, at 535 South 700 East, just across the street from the historic Trolley Square watertower.

We represent a wide variety of mediums, photography, jewelry, master bead work, lampwork beads, paintings of mixed media, oil watercolor, acrylic, sculpture, blown glass, fused glass and pottery. Our talented artists are all local and together we serve as a cooperative. We manage the gallery and work the shifts daily. Our hours are Tuesday thru Saturday 11: 00 to 7:00.

Currently we are hosting a benefit silent auction for Operation Smile. If you are interested in supporting this worthy cause please stop by the gallery.

The purpose of this blog is to introduce you to our artists and their work. We welcome your comments and hope you will visit our blog often!

I have featured one of my paintings here, Doggy Daydreams.

Catherine is a watermedia painter, lives in Salt Lake City, and is the mother of 5 great kids.

A Big Yes

Art talk

The viewer gets a big 'yes' when the art speaks for them what they can not express for themselves.

While Harvesting zucchini from my garden, I realized the importance of both shape and color. The color of the zucchini was the same as the dark green leaves and hard to find; it was the shape of the zucchini that allowed me to find it.

Shape describes and sends a message to the viewer. Color can unify and add to the mystery of art work.

"Color is my day-long obsession, joy and torment."

Claude Monet
